Varsity girls’ basketball began their season with two dominating wins. On Tuesday, November 29th the Trojans travelled to Hampton Christian and won with a score of 51-12. Then on Thursday, December 3rd, the Trojans played on the road again against fellow VISAA Division III opponent, Portsmouth Christian. The Trojans conquered the Patriots 49-19.
The Trojans return five players, only one of which started last year. Led by lone senior Clara Riggs, the Trojans added six eighth graders to their team. The young group has already proven themselves to be driven and talented on the court. These six eighth graders join the varsity team after going undefeated in their entire middle school careers. The Trojans look to recreate their state semifinal run from the 2021-2022 season this year!
Keira Kilkenny ’27 lead the charge on Tuesday’s game, finishing with 29 points and 10 rebounds! Elizabeth Hamner ’24 finished with eight points and Hailey Diggs ’24 added a three pointer for the Trojans! Clara Riggs, who took a tough fall in this game, was a critical rebounder inside for the Trojans. Piper Jones ’26 added two points and Sophia Gerry ’27 and Eleanor Tracey ’27 each scored their first points on the varsity team! Kate Blinn ’27 was phenomenal on defense and Arianna Kokolis ’27 stepped up handling the ball with point guard, Noelle Kokolis ’24, out with an injury.
The Trojans kept their success rolling into Thursday’s game. Again, Keira finished with 29 points! Elizabeth drained two three-pointers in a row and Hailey added another in rhythm three to secure the Trojan’s dominating performance. Arianna added her first bucket on the varsity squad. Shea Mansisidor ’27 was impactful on defense for the Trojans and also added her first varsity points! At times, all Trojan players on the court were eight graders!
It was a full team effort for the Trojan girls’ basketball! Congratulations girls on a great start to your season! Come out to Chismer on Tuesday, December 6th as the Trojans take on Veritas School of Richmond in a triple-header. The JV boys’ will play at 4:00pm, the varsity girls’ will take the court at 5:30pm followed by the varsity boys’ at 7:00pm. Go Trojans!
