The varsity field hockey team's season got off to a great start with a win against Jamestown High School on Tuesday, Aug. 24.

Hailey Diggs '24 kicked off the scoring with a goal in the second quarter but Jamestown was able to answer back in the third quarter.

From there, Jordan Thomas '24 and Parker Jones '26 shut things down defensively and did well sending the ball back up the field. Piper Jones '26 received the ball and worked her way to the end line sending the ball to assist with a shot from Noelle Kokolis '24 to retake the lead in the fourth quarter.

However, Jamestown scored again with three minutes left in the game to force overtime. The teams played seven vs. seven, sudden victory for 15 minutes. Elizabeth Hamner '24 got a break way down the field and the Jamestown goalie fouled her on her shot. A penalty stroke was called and Sarah Newman '22 stepped up and scored the game-winning goal!

"The entire team played a fantastic game," head coach Emily Mauk said. "The girls are looking forward to continuing their success this season."
