Athlete Of The Week For 9/20 - 9/25: KA Hamner

This week’s Athlete of the Week is KA Hamner ’22 from the varsity sailing team. KA has sailed for the Trojans since sixth grade and has been a member of the varsity team for the last four years. Her experience and leadership skills led to her being named captain of this year’s team.

Last week, KA led two great practices leading up to the team racing regatta hosted by Norfolk Academy on Saturday, Sept. 25. At the eleven-team regatta, she led an inexperienced team to defeat Norfolk Academy by one point while she skippered the winning boat, sending the Trojans on to the final elimination round. In the final round, the Trojans were eliminated by a strong team from Christchurch School, the overall regatta winner.

The Trojans definitely made their mark at the regatta as an opposing coach commented, “I was impressed with the Walsingham sailors both for their sailing ability and for being very respectful with great attitudes.” KA is the epitome of a good team captain as her enthusiasm for the sport, excellent sportsmanship, and ability to lead her teammates drives the team’s success.

Congratulations KA, and Go Trojans!
