Walsingham Girls Run Away With Opening Track Meet

Walsingham girls won their opening meet Wednesday against seven other schools at Charles City with 170.33 points.

Highlights for the Trojans included Leyjah Hamrick winning the 100 (13.22) and 200 (27.53). Rachel Owens took 5th and 4th in those events.

In the 400, Clare Kinney, Emma Lobash and Khatianna Perez finished 2-3-4. Christin Toth and Jocelyn Covaney were 1-2 in the 100 and 300 hurdles. Olivia Robinson took the high jump with a jump of 4-8 and Jocelyn Covaney tied for second at 4-6. Clare Kinney and Martha Page Norsworthy were 2-3 in the shot put and Clare won the discus.

The boys team finished fifth out of nine teams with 41.5 points. Top finishes for the boys were Ethan Ricker coming in third in the 800 and Mathew Brause third in the discus. Paul Tang added a fifth in the 200 and a 6th in the long jump. Michael Dye, Jack Shonka and David Carter were 5, 6 and 7 in the 400.
