Seven members of the Class of 2019 put on their Trojans uniforms for the final time on their home court on Thursday night as the varsity volleyball team took on TCIS rival Norfolk Collegiate on Senior Day. A large crowd of classmates and family members came out to support the Trojans and after a slow start, the Trojans rallied in front of their fans to pull off their first TCIS win of the season!
The Oaks of Norfolk Collegiate came back from a 23-17 deficit in the first set to win 26-24 and take control of the match. The second set saw the Oaks continue their run as they dominated on the way to a 25-9 win. With the Trojans down 2-0 and needing a change in momentum fast, the Trojans called on an all Senior lineup to start the third set. After an even start, the Trojans pulled away and went on to win the third set 25-22. The fourth set was again close but the Trojans came away with the 25-21 win to even up the match at 2-2 and force a fifth and final set. The Trojans fed off an energetic and supportive student section and took a 14-8 lead. The Oaks rallied for several points but it was Walsingham freshman Jaiden Smith who finished off the match with a kill to give the Trojans a 15-10 win!
The Trojans win puts them in a three way tie for 9th in the TCIS with Cape Henry and Norfolk Collegiate. The Trojans finish off their season with road games at HRA and at Norfolk Academy on 10/22 and 10/23, respectively.
