Trojans Honor Track and Field Seniors At Home Meet

The Trojans' varsity track and field team hosted their home meet and recognized the team's seven seniors on Monday, April 15.

The girls earned their second straight win of the season with 185 points -- 37 more points than second place Hampton Roads Academy.

Clare Kinney led the girls team in scoring with firsts in all three of her individual events: shot put, discus, and the 800-meter run. Clare was also a part of the third place 4x100 relay team with her teammates, Jocelyn Covaney, Emma Lobash and Rachel Owens.

Leyjah Hamrick sprinted to first place in every event she competed in, the 100- 200- and 400-meter races. Rachel Owens placed sixth in the 100-meter while Khatiana Perez and Antonia van Nahmen were fifth and eighth respectively in the 400-meter.

The Walsingham girls swept the medals in both hurdle events by taking first through third place. In the 100-meter hurdles, Jocelyn Covaney won, with Christin Toth finishing second and Emma Lobash third. In the 300-meter hurdles, Christin won, with Emma and Jocelyn in second and third.

Clare Kinney and Martha Page Norsworthy took first and third in both the shot put and discus. Lisa Elfendahl was sixth in discus. Jocelyn Covaney was second in the high jump with Olivia Robinson in third. Jocelyn was fifth in the long jump with Rachel Owens in sixth. Jocelyn was also fourth in the triple jump.

The Trojan girls excelled in the distance-races as well. The girls ran to a gold in the 4x800 with Dolby Forrest, Antonia van Nahmen, Khatiana Perez and Maddie Nassabi. Katie Haines was fifth in the 1600-meter and Kate Digges was fifth in the 3200-meter.

The Trojan boys took fourth place in the meet. Michael Dye led the boys team by scoring 20.5 points in four events. Michael was second in the 110-meter hurdles with his teammate Elias Carr in fourth. Michael was fourth in the 300-meter hurdles and third in the high jump. Michael and his teammates David Carter, Jack Shonka and Paul Tang placed third in the boys 4x400.

This is the first meet this year the boys scored in all three relays. The 4x800 team of Jake Falcone, Parker Shonka, Dominick Yacono and Alex Yang took fifth and the 4x100 relay team of Elias Carr, Adam Liu, Parker Shonka and Alex Yang took seventh.

The Trojan boys had a strong showing in the distance races with Patrick Murphy placing second in the 1600-meter and Jack Shonka sixth. Patrick was second in the 3200-meter with Jake Falcone in fifth and Dominick Yacono in sixth.

Paul Tang placed fourth in the triple jump and fifth in the long jump. David Carter was sixth in the 400-meter dash and Evan Zheng placed third in the shot put, with his best performance of the year by 1 foot, 2 inches.
