The Trojans achieved their best performances of the season in the VISAA meet at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville on Nov. 7. Both the boys and girls teams are primarily new with young runners. The team's main objective for the state meet was to peak perform and they nailed it! The girls' team was 14th out of 28 teams and the boys' team was 15th out of 34 teams.
The six girls competing at the state meet had the best meet they could possibly have with four racing to career personal records and two of the athletes running their fastest meet of the season. Never before has the girls' cross country team achieved this many season-best performances at the state meet. The girls' team was led by sophomore Emma Lobash. Emma capped off the season by being the first Trojan female across the finish line for all three championship meets. She ran the VISAA meet 1:14 faster than she did the week prior at TCIS to place 49th out of 242 runners with a time of 22:31. She was followed by senior Khatiana Perez in 78th place in 23:15, freshman Kate Digges was in 82nd place in 23:22 and eighth grader Maxine Horne finished in 123rd place with a time of 24:30. Alex Haggerty rounded out the Trojan scoring in 126th place in 24:38.
Senior Ethan Ricker finished off his fantastic senior season by leading the eleven boys competing in the varsity race. Six of the boys achieved career personal bests and one had a season-best. Ethan raced to a 28th-place finish out of 305 runners, matching his season-best time of 18:05 on a tougher course. Ethan was followed by junior Michael Dye in 86th place in 19:32. Freshman Parker Shonka was in 119th place in 20:08 followed closely by junior David Carter in 126th place in 20:12. Eighth grader Sebastian Vishton rounded out the Trojan scoring in 131st place with a time of 20:19.
Congratulations, Trojans, on a great season!
