Take Two: Girls Track and Field Runners-Up For Second Straight Year At State Catholic Meet

The Trojan girls track and field team achieved a runner-up finish in the State Catholic Championship meet for the second year in a row. This is a great finish for the Trojan girls as five of the eight teams in the competition are division one.

The following athletes achieved All-State Catholic Honors by placing in the top 3 of their events:

  • Leyjah Hamrick: first in 100M, third in 200M, second in 400M
  • Jocelyn Covaney: second in 100M hurdles
  • Emma Lobash: second in 300M hurdles
  • Christin Toth: third in 300M hurdles
  • Rachel Owens, Olivia Robinson, Christin Toth and Jocelyn Covaney third in 4x100 relay
  • Clare Kinney: second in shot put, 2nd in discus

Jocelyn Covaney scored in every event she competed with a fourth in 300M hurdles, fifth in triple jump & long jump, and sixth in high jump. Emma Lobash was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles. For the throwing events, Lisa Elfendahl was fourth in discus and Martha Page Norsworthy was sixth in shot put. Rachel Owens was sixth in the 100M dash and seventh in the 200M dash. Olivia Robinson was seventh in triple jump; Christin Toth was eighth in 100M hurdles; and Antonia van Nahmen was eighth in high jump. The girls scored fourth in the 4x400 relay with Khatiana Perez, Olivia Robinson, Clare Kinney and Dolby Forrest. The girls 4x800 team took sixth place with Khatiana Perez, Kate Digges, Dolby Forrest and Clare Kinney.

The top scorer for the boys team was sophomore Michael Dye, earning fourth in the 300M hurdles, sixth in the 110M hurdles and a sixth place finish in the 4x400 relay with his teammates: Jack Shonka, David Carter and Paul Tang. The 4x400 boys relay had a fantastic race -- their fastest race this season -- with a 3:48. The next highest scorer for the boys team was senior Patrick Murphy with a fifth in the 800M and a fifth in the 1600M. Patrick had his best 1600M race of his track career with a 4:35. Paul Tang was sixth in long jump and fifth in triple jump. Elias Carr was fifth in the 110M hurdles.

This Saturday, May 18, the team competes in the final championship meet of the season which, the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association meet at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond.
