Athletes Of The Week (May 13–18): Varsity Baseball and Varsity Girls' Track and Field Teams
Mike Brantley

This week's Athletes of the Week are the entire varsity baseball and varsity girls track and field teams.

Last week, the baseball team won its second consecutive VISAA Division III State Championship. The Trojans defeated #8 Broadwater Academy, #4 Fuqua, and #3 Southampton Academy by a combined score of 32-10 on their way to the title. Twelve different Trojans either scored or drove in a run during the state tournament and the four Trojan pitchers combined to allow just four earned runs over the course of 19 innings. The Trojans set the school record in wins for the second straight year with 23 victories on the season.

Last week, the girls track and field team accomplished something no other Walsingham team has ever achieved—five VISAA championships in a row. The Trojans spent all season training and competing to qualify for the state meet. Three of the athletes had not competed in track and field prior to this year! They came together as a cohesive team determined to win the state title competing against 22 Division II teams. Not only did they win it, but they scored 107 points, besting second place Oakcrest by 38 points. Eleven athletes scored and seven athletes achieved All-State VISAA honors.

Congratulations to our championship teams, and Go Trojans!!
