This week's Athlete of the Week is Becky Villeda '22. Becky is a member of the girls tennis team, and this is her second season playing varsity for the Trojans.
Last week, Becky and the rest of the varsity team started out with a match against Nansemond-Suffolk Academy. Becky played at #5 singles for the Trojans and dominated her opponent, winning in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-0. This win put her at 4-5 against conference opponents on the year, earning Becky the #6 seed (of 10 TCIS schools) in the TCIS Tournament at the end of the week.
On Thursday, Becky played a very strong Steward opponent in the #3 vs. #6 first round matchup of the TCIS Tournament. Becky again played extremely well and defeated her opponent which earned her a spot in the main draw where she eventually clinched a fourth-place finish in her seed group on Friday morning!
Becky and her teammates had a great fall season, finishing at 6-6 overall and nearly making the VISAA State Tournament for the first time since the program was revived several years ago.
Congratulations Becky, and Go Trojans!!
