This week's Athlete of the Week is Michael Dye '21. Michael is a member of the varsity boys track and field team for the first time this year.
Last week, Michael and his teammates competed in the State Catholic Meet on Saturday at Saint John Paul the Great High School. Michael excelled at the meet as the high point scorer for the boys team, a tremendous achievement for a sophomore in their first year competing in the sport. Michael finished fourth in the 300M hurdles, sixth in the 110M hurdles, and was a key member of the 4x400 relay team that placed sixth along with teammates Jack Shonka, David Carter, and Paul Tang.
In Michael's first season competing in track & field and he has already set a school record in the 300M hurdles relay along with his teammate Elias Carr. Michael has been high point scorer for the boys team at three meets this season and he has shown his incredible versatility, competitiveness and stamina by competing in six different events: 110M hurdles, 300M hurdles, long jump, triple jump, high jump and the 4x400 relay in most meets. Michael has qualified to compete in four events in the VISAA meet: 110M hurdles, 300M hurdles, high jump, and triple jump.
The Trojans will finish out their season as they compete in the VISAA State Championship Meet on Saturday, May 18, at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond.
