Walsingham Academy Service Program
What: Students at Walsingham Academy are required to perform 20 hours of service each year. Students are encouraged to take part in volunteer service through their school, churches, and the wider community. Reflecting the Catholic social teaching, a special emphasis is placed upon service to the poor and vulnerable. Students will be offered many service opportunities at Walsingham Academy. A school sponsored project will be offered to students each month, and the various clubs at Walsingham also offer many opportunities. For junior and seniors, there will be the option of an inner city immersion experience in the winter.
Why: Walsingham Academy offers the student an opportunity to participate in a community of faith. Through this community, the student is led to appreciate oneself as an individual and a member of God’s family. The student is invited to respond to God’s love with concern for all people. Walsingham Academy believes that each student can make a difference in today’s world; and therefore, challenges its students to assume leadership positions in the ministry of their respective churches and communities so as to: “connect the rich to the poor,… the influential to those of no consequence and the powerful to the weak to do the work of God on earth.” (Upper School Handbook pp.2-3)
How: To meet the requirement, students must complete the following format:
