Sailing team to participate in Leukemia Cup Regatta

 

 

On Saturday, April 19, The Walsingham Sailing team will participate in the Leukemia Cup Regatta at Christchurch School. Sponsored by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the Leukemia Cup Regatta is a thrilling series of sailing events that combines the joy of boating with the important task of raising money to cure cancer. Since its inception, the Leukemia Cup Regatta has raised millions of dollars for lifesaving research and patient services, bringing help and hope to patients and their families.

 

The Walsingham Sailing team is over a quarter of the way to its goal of raising $2,014 dollars. To view the team's homepage and support their efforts, please click here

 

Fourth Graders visit Envoy of Williamsburg

 

 

 

The spirit of service is alive at Walsingham, as fourth grade students visited Envoy of Williamsburg Nursing Home on April 9 to bring joy and love to its residents. The students created and delivered over 200 Easter decorations for display around the home. The students also prepared a few songs to bring cheer to the residents. 

"I am so proud that the class chose to serve in this fashion," said fourth grade teacher Jessica Gleason. "It was such a rewarding experience, to see how much compassion our students had for the residents of Envoy. Our students left with smiles wide on their faces, knowing that today they made a difference and so can you."

 

VA Gazette: Kids find fun at annual Walsingham Egg Hunt

 

"Walsingham Academy's annual Easter Egg Hunt is in its fourth year, a rather new tradition, and it went off Saturday morning without a hitch. More than 100 children and their families participated, collecting candy-filled Easter eggs, getting their faces painted, coloring spring-themed pictures, and more." Walsingham Appoints Jeff Nicoloff to the newly created Director of the Arts position for the 2014-2015 academic year


Walsingham Academy is dedicated to preparing students for academic success, but also to cultivating in students a rich medley of the visual and performing arts. Jeff Nicoloff will continue to teach part-time in the Lower School, and his new academy-wide responsibilities will include proposing and executing new visual and performing arts programs and contributing to the enhancement of art-integrated instruction.

WY Daily: Walsingham First-Grader Wins Annual VIMS Art Contest

"A watercolor painting of an anglerfish by 7-year-old Walsingham Academy first-grader Johnny Vaughan will decorate advertising materials and T-shirts for the Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences.

Vaughan was the grand prize winner in VIMS’ annual Marine Science Day art contest, which is open to adults and children and provides artwork for VIMS’ open house. This year’s open house is scheduled for May 14 and will include a display of anglerfish and other deep-sea fish."

Dylan Bowman wins Walsingham's 2014 Video Contest

Congraulations to Dylan Bowman ('16) for winning Walsingham's 2014 Project Yellow Light Video Contest. Walsingham Upper Schoolers submitted 61 videos on the subject of distracted driving. Eight videos were selected as finalists and sent to a panel of outside judges, which selected Dylan's video as the winner.

WY Daily: Children Celebrate Reading at Dr. Seuss Birthday Bash

"Children at Walsingham Academy did not eat green eggs and ham, but instead feasted on cake to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss on Friday.

For the Dr. Seuss Birthday Bash, Walsingham invited students in pre-k through third grade from their institution and across Williamsburg to a celebration of the beloved author. The school gave away 600 free tickets to guests who poured into the lower school gymnasium in eager anticipation of the festivities.

The event was held in conjunction with Read Across America Day, an annual reading motivation and awareness program by the National Education Association. Since 1998, Read Across America has been working to create lifelong readers."
